Trees planted outside shops on Alnwick Drive

Following an extensive consultation process 92 street, verge and green space trees have been planted in Stanney Wolverham to enhance this residential area.

The trees were planted by Blakedown Landscapes in association with Ombler Iwanowski Architects who coordinated the contract.Ben Greenaway overall project coordinator for The Mersey Forest said 'Following the recent building of several new houses, and the improvements to public realm such as the new play area on Thornton Rd this is a welcome improvement'.

The trees a selection of ornamental and broad leaves such as Lime, Oak, Cherry, Ornamental Pear, and Rowan will bring both spring flowers, berries and autumn foliage marking a change in seasons across the year.

Enthusiastic Response to Consultation

Residents in Stanney Wolverham responded positively to consultation to street and green space tree planting proposals for their area with demand outstripping supply. The Mersey Forest is now looking at its funding to see what can be done to extend the planting to meet demand in the area.
Ben Greenaway Coordinator of the project for The Mersey Forest said 'it would be a shame if all residents who wanted a tree didn't get one and although many of the streets have some trees there certainly are some areas that would benefit from enhancement from greenery especially as further investment in the area's housing stock is intended in the future'.

Residents and Businesses Consulted on Planting Proposals

Residents across Stanney Wolverham, in the target areas of Rochester Drive, Alnwick Drive, Thornton Rd, Milton Rd and St Andrew's Rd have been consulted on plans to plant ornamental street trees along the pavements, verges, and green spaces where they live as part of a funding package from The Forestry Commission's Setting The Scene For Growth programme and monies from Cheshire West and Chester Council through their Section 106 and Environmental Improvement programme for the area.
Residents received a letter from The Mersey Forest outlining why trees were proposed and giving them an opportunity to choose the type and location of ornamental tree to be planted.

Businesses have also been consulted particularly around the shops on the corner of Wolverham Rd and Milton Rd where new flats are being built and converted and where public realm improvements are intended.
It is hoped that these improvements will not only make the area more pleasant to live in but that it will attract more shoppers to the area.
